Last Thursday’s karaoke was… weird

Sarah invited me to join her and some of her co-workers for karaoke and since they were going to be four blocks from my apartment (and I need friends) I said yes.

If you haven’t been to Cafe Japone, you’re missing quite the karaoke experience.  For some reason, we ended up in a grotto-type bar where the karaoke monitors were all inside fish tanks.  Here’s what the grotto looked like:

Unfortunately, no one could work the karaoke machine, so we ended up hearing this song four times… let me be clear, “Solitary Man” is not a karaoke upper:

After about an hour, the bartender still couldn’t help us get the machine working.  And then he fessed up that actually, he was neither the bartender, nor an actual employee of the establishment.

I left when it became clear that I would not be singing “Man in the Mirror.”  I mean, the owner of the bar didn’t know how to work his own machine.  He did, however, say that he’d lived all over the world and had never seen anyone as beautiful as I so… if I’m interested in a Japanese karaoke bar owner in his late 40s, I’ve got a major contender.

Awe-some.
