Finally experienced a good burger in this city

So Mike (and later Clare, Married Brother, and Eric) shared this article on the perfect burger with me.  Needless to say, I was left salivating and worried that I would never experience a delicious burger near me again since DC just doesn’t measure up to NYC in the burger department.

Picture 8 oz of appropriately charred meat with just the right thickness (about 1.25″), perfectly melted cheese, some kind of awesome sauce, grilled red onions, pickles, and a thick slice of tomato all on a large, lightly toasted, sesame and poppy seed bun.

Then yesterday Katherine took me to Ray’s Hell Burger.  Yes, the place Obama and Biden went together.

I had one of the better burgers of my life.  Everything was perfect from the lack of fries to the draft root beer.

Basically, Katherine is incredible, Ray’s is delicious, and a near perfect burger exists in Arlington (just 35 minutes walking and 2 metro stops from me).

  • Are you trying to tell me a burger without fries is a good thing? EPIC FAIL, Karen. FAIL.

  • Yes, Clare. A burger without fries leaves more stomach room to focus on… the burger. At a full half pound, I was only able to eat half this burger as is!

You heard it here first: there are very few fries that would cause me to sacrifice meat consumption.

  • How was the line? I’ve been wanting to go back, but I’m scared since the Obama/Biden visit. The line was bad enough before they informed the country of the awesomeness of Ray’s Hell Burger.

If you like beef, you should also try Ray’s the Steaks, the sister restaurant. Excellent steaks for a good value (as long as you don’t mind a lack of atmosphere).

  • The wait on the Friday before the 4th was about 30 minutes to order and another 15 or 20 to get our food. But soooooo worth it. I’ll have to plan a trip to Ray’s Steaks soon!
