Worst Organization in the World: ETS

I hereby nominate the Educational Testing Service for Worst Organization in the World.  Not only do they have an absurd monopoly on ridiculous tests, but they can’t even administer them properly.

Today, I got a letter telling me that the ETS screwed up my GRE and the algorithm didn’t select the right pattern of questions for me on Verbal.  I knew something was shady when I got my score and it was about 40 points below what I’d anticipated on Verbal, but I just thought it was harder than I thought.

So now I can retake just Verbal for free, but hold up my application for grad school by another 6-8 weeks including scoring time.  Or I can just ride it out with my submitted application and see what happens since my Verbal score isn’t atrocious.

I’m seriously so annoyed right now.

That’s incredibly ridiculous. Don’t hold up your application. But you should retake the verbal and have them resubmit your scores. You’ll likely be accepted by then anyway, but just in case, it would be nice to know what you would have gotten – you could even probably send them the “unofficial” score as a supplement to your application. The official is just paperwork.

EEEWWWW! That’s such a pain in the ass! I would ask Georgetown what they suggest–they may say your scores are fine/as long as you are within a certain range they don’t care about the score (that’s what UVA architecture does), or they may say you should retake them.
