Jerry Manuel, in non-gangsta mode, speaks directly to me

“Baseball is such that the human element is bigger than the statistical element,” Manuel said, getting serious and deep-thinking. “A lot of times the things work out, even if the statistical element doesn’t appear sound.”

Okay, so obviously Jerry wants the Mets to go to the playoffs, but I’m thinking maybe he’s speaking to Yankee fans too.  I mean, being 11 games out of first in late August may seem like it’s statistically impossible to finish first in the AL, but if the human element is bigger then we should be fine.

I mean, human element-wise, we’ve got Johnny Damon playing like an All Star and no Joba or Wang for the rest of the season.

Go Rays!
