In two days, my iPod died, my Powerbook is one second from death, and the new iPod nano I bought is incompatible with my current OS. So I called Apple and was put on hold for a total of 45 minutes and then the service rep suggested I buy an old iPod off eBay.
Here’s the letter I sent to Apple after I hung up:
I’m really really frustrated. I have a PowerBook G4 running Mac OS 10.3.9 from three and a half years ago. My most recent iPod completely died (video iPod) after less than a year and a half of use. I just bought a brand new iPod nano and discovered that it won’t work with anything pre 10.4.8. Then when I researched, I learned that I can’t use a single new iPod product with my current OS.I know that my computer isn’t the newest thing, but it’s three and a half years old and still works well — but I don’t have enough Gigs to upgrade to Leopard. So what sort of options are there for a loyal Apple customer who isn’t ready to buy a brand new computer yet?
I’m just so frustrated — I’ve always been a complete supporter of your brand, your products, and your service. And when I spoke with your tech support about this, they suggested I buy an older iPod on ebay. Are you kidding me? That’s the only solution you have for me to find something that’s compatible with my current Apple computer?
On top of it, I returned my old video iPod to you all when I bought my nano so I can’t even investigate spending the $60-$100 to get that one fixed.
Please tell me what I can do to continue to use your products because at this point that doesn’t seem like an option.
If any of you know anything about mp3 players and computers, let me know and I’ll start calling you for advice about what to do…
